Everton kept their European hopes alive with a comfortable 2-0 win over Burnley at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Toffees extended their unbeaten head-to-head run against Burnley to five matches, with this being their first home win of 2026.

The first half was a different story, though – neither team created much threat in the opening 30 minutes, making a goal before the break seem unlikely.

The game took a turn just after the half-hour mark. James Garner's free-kick into the area found James Tarkowski unmarked, and the defender made the most of the space, heading it past a committed Martin Dúbravka to give the Toffees the lead.

Burnley is still reeling from their heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Brentford on Saturday. The Clarets showed incredible resilience, coming back from 3-0 down, but ultimately fell short in stoppage time.

Their struggles continued in the first half, managing only one shot and trailing at halftime for the 16th time this season in the Premier League

With Everton very much in command in terms of general play, they were keen to find a second goal to ease any potential nerves inside the final half-hour. And on the hour mark, they managed to do just that with their first shot on target of the second half.

The ball was worked to Iliman Ndiaye just outside the area, and the Senegalese international slipped it through to fellow midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who lifted his effort from inside the area over Dúbravka to double the home side’s advantage.

Perhaps still harbouring memories of recent capitulations at the Hill-Dickinson Stadium, Everton played it safe for the remainder, meaning that the Toffees' vital second goal proved to be the final moment of note on a truly miserable evening for the Clarets and their long-suffering supporters.

In response to that, the visitors only managed to fashion two shots on target in the second half on the way to an 18th defeat of the season.

Everton got a much-needed win at Hill Dickinson Stadium, ending a three-month drought at home. It's also their first win in four games at Goodison, and they remain eighth in the league - still in contention for a European spot.

Burnley's relegation looks more likely than ever - they're 19th in the table, eight points off safety with just nine games left. That's their third relegation from the Premier League in five seasons. Can they pull it back?
