Carpenter and Kerr miss Chelsea's League Cup win amid Asian Cup clash

Australian football stars disappointed as they miss club's big day for international duty. Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr miss Chelsea's League Cup title win due to Women's Asian Cup duties.

Asian Cup takes priority as Carpenter and Kerr miss Chelsea's big day...

Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr are gissing out on Chelsea's League Cup title win, and they're not happy about it. The Australian duo are currently in Perth, gearing up for the Women's Asian Cup semi-finals against China.

Carpenter is now calling for football chiefs to reconsider the scheduling of the tournament, given the clash with Chelsea's big match.

Japan's Lauren James and Aggie Beever-Jones weren't part of Manchester United's League Cup win in England on Sunday, with the duo missing the game as their team won 2-0.

Manchester United midfielder Hinata Miyazawa also didn't feature in the trophy lift, which saw goals from James and Beever-Jones secure the win.

The next Asian Cup is in fact scheduled for 2029 in Uzbekistan.

“Maybe putting in June-July when normal major tournaments are on,” added Carpenter.

“It's not nice missing league games and (having) a congested tournament in the middle of the season is also probably not great for longevity.”

Thirteen of Australia's 26-player squad play for English clubs, and their seasons are clashing with the Asian Cup. Japan's team is facing similar issues, with 16 players based in England.

The men's Asian Cup is usually in Jan-Feb, also cutting into the European club season. Guess it's a problem for both men's and women's tournaments.
