Xavi Hernandez emerges as top candidate for Morocco national team coach amid Regragui exit...

The Moroccan Football Association (FRMF) is reportedly in talks with former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez to replace Walid Regragui as the national team coach. Regragui is expected to leave his position after facing criticism for his team's style of play and failing to win recent African Cup of Nations tournaments.

Morocco had a disappointing AFCON 2025, losing to Senegal in the final, which has led to increased pressure on Regragui. The FRMF is looking to bring in a high-profile coach to lead the team into the 2026 World Cup.

Xavi, who left Barcelona in 2024, is seen as a top candidate, but reports suggest he's hesitant to take on the role with limited time to prepare for the World Cup.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has denied rumors that Walid Regragui might be fired, despite reports suggesting he's considering stepping down as Morocco's national team coach. Regragui had verbally expressed his desire to leave, according to reports.

Morocco has secured its spot in this year's FIFA World Cup and is set to face tough opponents in Group C, including Brazil, Haiti, and Scotland.

Ajax Connection

Xavi's name has been linked with Ajax since John Heitinga's firing in November, with Jordi Cruyff reportedly pushing for his appointment. The Spaniard has been a target for the Amsterdam giants, and his managerial credentials make him a strong contender.

Xavi's Track Record

Xavi started his managerial career at Al-Sadd in 2019, winning 7 trophies before joining Barcelona in 2021. He led Barcelona to Supercopa de España and Primera División titles in the 2022/23 season, showcasing his coaching prowess.
