Ligue 1: Monaco Stunning 3-2 Comeback Beats Lens
| Monaco overturn 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 against Lens |
AS Monaco mounted a stunning comeback, erasing a two-goal deficit to defeat RC Lens 3-2 at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, snapping the league leaders' three-match winning run in Ligue 1.
Folarin Balogun sparked the comeback with a powerful shot that squeezed past Risser...
Lens looked like they'd cruise to victory, taking a two-goal lead early on. They opened the scoring after just three minutes.
A dangerous cross from Adrien Thomasson wasn’t dealt with, and the loose ball fell perfectly for Odsonne Édouard to whistle a clearly struck volley into the net from 12 yards out.
If anything, Lens may have suffered from the old cliché of scoring too early as they struggled to turn their early lead into sustained pressure, instead allowing the visitors to grow back into the game.
Folarin Balogun had a great chance to level, but his shot was straight at Robin Risser, who pushed it to safety.
As the game descended into a midfield battle, the home side began to sit back and were perhaps lucky to see Simon Adingra fizz a shot just wide of the target just before the interval.
Nevertheless, Lens upped the tempo after the restart and were duly rewarded with their second goal shortly before the hour mark
Malang Sarr's powerful shot should've been dealt with by Philipp Köhn, but he parried it straight to Florian Thauvin, who tapped in easily.
Having posed limited attacking threat in the second period, the visitors quickly struck back to turn the game on its head during a dramatic 10 minutes.
Folarin Balogun sparked the comeback with a powerful shot that squeezed past Risser at the near post, and Denis Zakaria followed up with a header off the bar from Caio Henrique's pinpoint cross, making it 2-2.
Ansu Fati sealed the comeback, beating Robin Risser and making it 3-2 for Monaco.

Despite their best efforts, Lens could not find an equaliser and were ultimately edged out. This result could prove crucial in the title race, as Lens handed the initiative back to PSG by failing to extend their one-point lead, having played a game more.
Monaco's winning streak continues! After beating Lens 3-2, they've won three of their last four Ligue 1 games, moving them level with LOSC Lille in fifth place.
