The Atlanta Falcons have fired assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis following allegations of rape during his time as a coach at the University of Michigan in the 2023-2024 season. The allegations include disturbing messages Lewis sent to the alleged victim, threatening to harm her.
Lewis, 32, had only joined the Falcons' coaching staff on February 10, 2026, and was let go just 17 days later. The Falcons released a statement saying they were aware of the allegations and were gathering information.
The Ann Arbor Police Department is investigating the allegations, and Lewis's attorney has released a statement denying the allegations, saying Lewis intends to “fiercely fight” them.
LaTroy Lewis, the former assistant defensive line coach of the Atlanta Falcons, was fired after allegations surfaced that he sexually assaulted a woman in December 2024 while working at the University of Michigan. The alleged assault was reported to Sherrone Moore, the former Michigan head coach, who allegedly failed to report the incident.
In a separate incident, Lewis allegedly attacked the same woman so brutally that neighbors called the police. The Ann Arbor Police Department is investigating the allegations, and Lewis' attorney has denied the claims, stating that Lewis intends to “fiercely fight these false allegations.”
The Falcons released a statement saying they are aware of the allegations and are gathering information, but have no further comment at this time.
The victim had previously reported the assault to Sherrone Moore, then head coach at the University of Michigan, but he allegedly dismissed her claims and even gave LaTroy Lewis a raise after the report. Moore's own misconduct, including harassment and sexual assault, came under scrutiny, leading to his firing last year.
Moore was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and stalking. He also reportedly threatened self-harm around the time of his arrest, highlighting concerns about his behavior.
The University of Michigan has faced criticism for its handling of the situation, with calls for greater accountability and support for victims of assault.
