Kylian Mbappe was involved in all three goals as Real Madrid beat Athletic Club 3-0 in LaLiga, extending Los Blancos’ record to just one defeat from their last seven H2Hs against the Lehoiak.

Unai Simon was called into action twice moments apart to deny Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior after unconvincing defending from his teammates in the opening stages.

Mbappé was unstoppable in the seventh minute, collecting Trent Alexander-Arnold's pass, beating Iñigo Lekue, and smashing the ball past Simón. Gorka Guruzeta had a chance to respond, but his attempt went over from a Nico Williams cross.

Athletic Bilbao pushed for a response, but Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior continued to threaten on the counter. The hosts struggled to break through, with Mbappé's speed and skill causing problems for the defense.

Guruzeta's shot was thwarted by Thibaut Courtois, who also made a great save to deny Álex Berenguer. Vinícius Júnior continued to cause problems, hitting the post and being stopped by Simón.

Real Madrid scored their second before halftime, with Alexander-Arnold's cross being headed back across goal by Mbappé for Eduardo Camavinga to nod home. The goal was a result of great teamwork, with Mbappé's movement and Alexander-Arnold's delivery causing problems for the Athletic Bilbao defense.

Valverde responded with a double change ahead of the restart, and while Mbappé hit an attempt within 30 seconds, it wasn’t much longer until Courtois had to tip over an ambitious Mikel Jauregizar with the hosts refusing to give up.

Despite the goalkeeper’s work, there was a blow for Los Blancos as Alexander-Arnold went off injured in the 55th minute.

There was then a coming together between the two teams after an incident involving Mbappé and Adama Boiro, but the Frenchman clearly wasn’t bothered as he fired an audacious shot from range past Simón shortly after.

Camavinga was forced off with an injury after a challenge from Berenguer, but Guruzeta failed to capitalize on late chances. Real Madrid ended a run of three consecutive draws in LaLiga with a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, keeping them just one point behind leaders Barcelona.

The win also saw Athletic Bilbao suffer their fourth defeat in six league games, leaving them eighth in the table. Mbappé was the star of the match, scoring two goals and providing an assist, leading Real Madrid to victory after three draws.
