French defender Philippe Lanquetin received a three-year prison sentence for causing a major car accident on the French A1 in October 2023. The 20-year-old, who plays for ADO Den Haag, was involved in a serious incident that led to the sentence.

Lanquetin was given two years suspended, with the remaining year to be served in prison. He also received a five-year driver's license suspension and must compensate the accident victims. The charges included aggravated involuntary injury and driving without a license or insurance.

Lanquetin was involved in a serious car accident on October 9th, 2023, near Le Fayel, a town outside Paris. He was driving his parents' car at 140 kph when he hit another vehicle, causing a chain reaction collision.

The accident left Farid Baho, driver of one of the cars, severely injured. Baho suffered quadriplegia and significant neurological damage, leaving him wheelchair-bound for life, according to Oise Hebdo.

Lanquetin admitted to driving without a license after leaving a party outside Paris. He was 18 at the time and was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.30 g/l, tested positive for cannabis use, and had nitrous oxide in his possession.

The prosecution described Lanquetin's actions as “not accidental but resulted from objectively irresponsible behaviour,” leading to severe consequences. He was found guilty on multiple counts, including driving without a license, excessive speed, alcohol consumption, and cannabis presence.

Lanquetin, who was with a friend who had a driver's license, said in his defense: “I was more confident in my abilities.” He was heading to Paris when the accident occurred, causing devastating and permanent harm to the victim.
