FC Midtjylland handed FC Nordsjaelland a huge blow, defeating them 5-1 in their Cup quarter-final first leg clash in Herning. This loss comes just four days after Nordsjaelland's 6-0 thrashing by Midtjylland, making it a tough week for the team.
Coach Jens Fonsskov Olsen had tried to shake things up, changing his team's formation to 5-3-2 after Sunday's humiliation. However, it wasn't enough to trouble Midtjylland, who were led by Mike Tullberg. The result leaves Nordsjaelland facing an uphill battle to turn the tie around in the second leg.
The visitors, FC Midtjylland, were allowed to dominate possession as FC Nordsjaelland opted to bolster their defense. This strategy worked for about 30 minutes, but the home side's rearguard eventually collapsed. Junior Brumado broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, poking the ball over the line from close range.
FC Nordsjaelland's struggles continued, and they conceded another goal just six minutes and 57 seconds later. The home side was in solid control, with a two-goal lead. The game was heating up, and FC Midtjylland's pressure was starting to pay off – but for the opposing team, it seemed the floodgates had opened.

FC Midtjylland's attack was too strong for FC Nordsjaelland's defense, who struggled to cope with the pressure, especially on set pieces and crosses into the box. Brumado scored his second goal of the night, doubling Midtjylland's lead, before Gue-Sung Cho added a third with a powerful header.
The second half was a nightmare for Nordsjaelland, as Brumado completed his hat-trick with a penalty just five minutes in, making it 4-0. Peter Ankersen pulled one back for the visitors with a beautiful curling shot from the edge of the box, but it was too little, too late. Mikel Gogorza quickly restored the four-goal advantage, leaving Nordsjaelland with a massive task to overturn the deficit in the return leg.
