USA Manager Mauricio Pochettino Eyes Future Return to Premier League?
| Pochettino admits desire to return to Premier League |
USA coach Mauricio Pochettino keeps options open for a future Premier League return, despite current focus on the World Cup.
“I think we were so close in Tottenham, we nearly touched it (winning the Champions League and Premier League)...”
Mauricio Pochettino, the current head coach of the United States men's national team, has openly expressed his desire to return to the Premier League in the future. Despite being content in his role with the USMNT, Pochettino misses the intensity and competitiveness of the Premier League, which he considers “the best league in the world.” Pochettino's experience managing top-tier clubs like Tottenham and Chelsea has given him a deep appreciation for the league, and he hopes to one day return to manage in the Premier League again.
Pochettino's current focus is on leading the USMNT through the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, he has made it clear that he would welcome the opportunity to return to the Premier League in the future, citing the league's high standards and fast-paced nature as major attractions. Pochettino's tenure at Tottenham was particularly notable, as he led the team to the Champions League final and consistently challenged for top-four finishes in the Premier League.
The 53-year-old Argentine coach has been open about his unfinished business in the Premier League, particularly with Tottenham, where he came close to winning major trophies but ultimately fell short. Pochettino's desire to return to the Premier League is driven by his ambition to win major titles and achieve success at the highest level. For now, he remains committed to his role with the USMNT and is focused on building a strong team for the 2026 World Cup.
Pochettino's Current Focus and Future Plans
- Current role: Head coach of the United States men's national team
- Upcoming tournament: 2026 World Cup (co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico)
- Future plans: Potential return to the Premier League, driven by his desire to win major titles and achieve success at the highest level.
But Pochettino also told BBC Sport: "The Premier League is the best league in the world.
“Of course, I am missing it. I am so happy in America, but also thinking of coming back to the Premier League one day. It's the most competitive league.”
