Alex de Minaur has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters, defeating Portugal's Nuno Borges with a score of 7-5, 6-2. This win marks a significant milestone for De Minaur, who has now reached 50 wins in the season, joining Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz as the only men to achieve this feat.
De Minaur will face Daniil Medvedev or Learner Tien in the quarterfinals, following his dominant performance against Borges. Medvedev, ranked 18th, recently defeated Tien in a thrilling three-set match, 7-6(6), 6-7(1), 6-4. De Minaur is chasing his second title of the year and is one of the highest-ranked players remaining in the tournament.
The first set between Alex de Minaur and Nuno Borges was a closely contested affair. De Minaur, ranked world number seven, faced significant resistance from Borges but ultimately prevailed. In the 11th game, De Minaur saved five break points before converting the sixth to take a 7-5 lead.

De Minaur carried his momentum into the second set, breaking Borges in the first and third games to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Borges struggled to find his rhythm, and De Minaur capitalized on his opponent's errors to seal a 6-2 win in the second set and level the match at one set apiece was not required as it was a one set match format wasn't specified otherwise 6-2 in the second set gave him the match 7-5, 6-2.
“The first set was a very tight set, we both were kind of trying to figure each other out,” said the 26-year-old De Minaur.
“In the second set, I came out firing and I played some aggressive tennis... but still, it was very physical out there.”
De Minaur adopted a cautious approach when assessing his chances of winning the title, despite the notable exits of top seeds like Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. “In our side of the draw, there's a lot of quality players, so it's still going to be a battle,” he said, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament.

Auger-Aliassime's momentum continued into the second set, where he broke Musetti in the fifth and seventh games. This decisive break allowed Auger-Aliassime to seal the win, advancing him to the quarterfinals.
“I knew it was going to be the toughest match of the week so far, and I knew I was going to have to raise my level, and I did,” said the 25-year-old Canadian.
“I was able to execute my game plan almost perfectly.”
