Achraf Hakimi scores twice as PSG defeat Brest

Paris Saint-Germain snapped out of their draw streak with a 3-0 win over Stade Brestois, thanks to Achraf Hakimi's first-half double.

This result extends Brest's winless run against PSG to 33 matches, with the Parisians now boasting 25 wins and 8 draws in their head-to-head record...

Achraf Hakimi scored a first-half double as Paris Saint-Germain secured a 3-0 win over Brest, propelling them back to the top of the Ligue 1 table. Brest's winless streak against PSG now stands at 33 matches.

PSG dominated the early stages, enjoying over 80% possession. Despite Brest's hopes of a more subdued performance from the Parisians following their midweek Champions League thrashing of another team, Hakimi quickly put those doubts to rest with his double.

The first half was relatively quiet, with both teams struggling to create clear chances. However, the away side broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when Vitinha's perfectly weighted lobbed pass found Achraf Hakimi, who finished clinically with a side-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Hakimi doubled the lead just 10 minutes later, linking up with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia before firing in a shot from a tight angle, giving the Parisians a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.

Brest came out with renewed energy in the second half, but their frustration grew when Lee Kang-in's handball in the box went unpunished. The Brest players were convinced they'd been fouled, but the referee and VAR initially disagreed. However, after a lengthy delay, the referee was called to review the play on the pitchside monitor and ultimately awarded Brest a penalty kick.

After the lengthy decision, Romain Del Castillo stepped up and slipped just as he was about to connect with the ball, and his unfortunate spot-kick ended with an embarrassing miss.

That penalty miss took the wind out of Brest’s sails as they struggled to get back into the contest, and combined with multiple substitutions, it became a stop-start affair.

PSG regained control and cruised through the final 30 minutes, with their defense solidly shutting out Brest's attacks. The visitors' goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, was only called into action once in the 88th minute, making a save from Mama Balde's effort. Desire Doue sealed the win with a late goal in stoppage time, lifting PSG back to the top of the table.
