Windrush FC's Lucky Pemu expresses confidence in Nigeria's 2026 World Cup qualification hopes, citing the team's quality and experience.

“I know the Super Eagles will be facing very tough odds in their quest to qualify for the World Cup...”

Lucky Pemu, a Nigerian football administrator based in England, has expressed unwavering confidence in the Super Eagles' ability to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to Pemu, the team's campaign is divinely destined, and he believes they have the quality, experience, and tactical edge to overcome Gabon in the playoffs.

The Super Eagles secured a spot in the playoffs after a dominant 4-0 win over Benin Republic, with Victor Osimhen scoring a hat-trick. Pemu emphasized that the team's recent performance shows they have the character and fighting spirit to succeed. “The Super Eagles always rise when it matters most,” he said.

Pemu acknowledged that the path to qualification will be challenging, but he remains optimistic about the team's chances. He urged the players to follow the coaches' instructions, perform at their best, and rely on the support of the Nigeria Football Federation. With the right approach, Pemu believes Nigeria can qualify for the World Cup.

Despite the challenges, Pemu exudes optimism about Nigeria's World Cup prospects, citing the country's rich footballing heritage. He acknowledges the hurdles ahead but remains confident in the team's potential.

“I know the Super Eagles will be facing very tough odds in their quest to qualify for the World Cup, but first, we must commend Eric Chelle and his boys for securing such an impressive result against Benin Republic.

“Many Nigerians had lost hope before the game (against Benin Republic), but by the final whistle, there were smiles everywhere and we now have a second chance to reach the biggest stage in world football.

“I’m very optimistic that Nigeria will represent Africa when the tournament begins because getting to this point already feels divine.

“You simply cannot talk about African football without mentioning Nigeria, a nation with a proud legacy of excellence, from the days of Segun Odegbami to Stephen Keshi and many other greats.

“Will the playoffs be difficult? Absolutely. But will we qualify in the end? Definitely. Based on what we saw against Gernot Rohr’s team, I’m strongly convinced the boys have the character, quality, and fighting spirit to scale the final hurdle in Morocco. The Super Eagles always rise when it matters most - and this time won’t be any different.”

The Super Eagles will face a formidable challenge from Gabon's key duo, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Bouanga, in their upcoming World Cup playoff match. During the first round of qualifiers, the pair showcased their impressive skills, combining for 15 goals and helping Gabon secure a strong record with only one loss. Their impressive performance came against tough opponents, including Cote d'Ivoire, Burundi, Seychelles, Kenya, and Gambia.

Despite the significant threat posed by Thierry Mouyouma's side, Windrush FC's Lucky Pemu remains confident in the Super Eagles' ability to overcome Gabon. Pemu believes the team's quality, experience, and tactical edge will give them the upper hand in the playoff match. With these strengths, Pemu is optimistic that the Super Eagles can take a crucial step toward securing a place in the 2026 World Cup.

He added: “There are no minnows in football anymore, but trust me, Gabon will also be wary of facing us because of the quality we possess.

“If our players follow the coaches’ instructions, perform at their best, and the Nigeria Football Federation plays its part, we will be home and dry.

“In the first round, we made mistakes, and we must learn from them, because at this stage, there is no second chance. That said, I remain very optimistic about our chances and it has never crossed my mind that we will not be there.”
