NFL Sunday Roundup: Chiefs Win Big, Ravens Lose Again
Kansas City Chiefs defeat Detroit Lions

NFL Sunday recap: Kansas City Chiefs hand Detroit Lions a convincing loss, Baltimore Ravens' woes continue with latest defeat.

“That's a good football team and it showed what we can do...”

The Kansas City Chiefs bounced back from a shocking loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, securing a convincing 30-17 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. This win marked a significant turnaround for the Chiefs, who showcased their prowess on the field.

The night took a dramatic turn when Lions safety Brian Branch swung at Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, sparking a mass shoving match. This altercation occurred after Branch ignored Patrick Mahomes' offer of a post-game high-five, which seemed to irk Smith-Schuster.

Despite the post-game drama, Mahomes was all smiles, savoring a crucial victory that showcased the Chiefs' prowess. The team's 30-17 win over the Lions marked a significant turnaround, with Mahomes throwing for 257 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for another score. This win was a welcome respite for the Chiefs, who had faced setbacks earlier in the season.

“That's a good football team and it showed what we can do,” Mahomes said. “We've been getting better and better each and every week. The results haven't been paying off but it's good to get one here at home and we'll try to carry this momentum into the next game.”

Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a six-yarder to Xavier Worthy that marked his 300th career touchdown pass, helping the Kansas City Chiefs take an early lead. The Chiefs maintained momentum, with Mahomes scoring on a one-yard TD run and later connecting with Marquise “Hollywood” Brown for two touchdowns.

Taylor Swift was in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium, cheering on her fiancé Travis Kelce. The tight end had a solid game, catching six passes for a season-high 78 yards. Swift's presence has become a notable aspect of the Chiefs' season, with fans and media closely following her appearances.

Tampa Bay's recent winning streak has been fueled by dramatic finishes, but that wasn't necessary in this matchup. Instead, Baker Mayfield delivered a solid performance, throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

Mayfield's impressive play was a highlight of the game, showcasing his skills as a quarterback. He scrambled for a crucial first down late in the third quarter, extending the drive that ultimately ended with a 45-yard scoring pass to rookie Tez Johnson, who leaped for his first NFL touchdown.

“Guys just doing their job,” Mayfield said. “Young guys stepping up big-time for us.

“I was kind of asleep there for the whole first quarter, but defense kept us in it until I got going - complementary football, that's what it's all about.”

The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with a slew of injuries, including quarterback Brock Purdy, defensive end Nick Bosa, and tight end George Kittle. Their situation just got worse after linebacker Fred Warner suffered a right ankle injury in the first quarter. Warner was carted off the field after teammate Ji'Ayir Brown rolled onto his ankle, causing him significant pain.

The 49ers' injury woes continue to pile up, with Warner's status uncertain for now. This latest setback adds to the team's existing challenges, with several key players sidelined. San Francisco's resilience will be tested as they navigate this tough stretch.

The 49ers currently have a 4-2 record, tied with the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks atop the NFC West standings. With multiple star players out, including Purdy, who is dealing with a turf toe injury and considered week-to-week, the team will need to find ways to win without their top players.

The Seattle Seahawks secured a 20-12 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville. Sam Darnold led the Seahawks with two touchdown passes, including a 61-yard strike to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had an impressive game with 162 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams bounced back from a slow start to defeat the Baltimore Ravens 17-3. The Rams' offense came alive in the third quarter with a pair of touchdowns, showcasing their scoring prowess and silencing the Ravens' defense.

The score was tied 3-3 at halftime after a dramatic goal-line stand by the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams' defense held strong, stopping Derrick Henry on fourth down from less than five yards out. Baltimore's attempts to score were thwarted, with their “tush push” plays failing to yield any points.

The Rams took the lead in the third quarter with Kyren Williams' three-yard touchdown run. Just a few plays later, Zay Flowers fumbled the ball, and the Rams quickly capitalized on the mistake. Matthew Stafford threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Higbee, putting the Rams up 17-3. This momentum shift marked a turning point in the game, with the Rams' defense continuing to shut down the Ravens' offense.

“Obviously (we) fed off our defense and special teams getting the ball back for us a couple of times,” Stafford said.

“Just a weird one,” he added. “Didn't execute as good as we possibly can, missed some opportunities to score touchdowns in the red zone but found a way to win, which is what matters most.”

Matthew Stafford threw for 181 yards and a touchdown, completing 17 of 26 passes, and praised the Rams' defense for their stellar performance in the team's 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The defense, led by Nate Landman, Jared Verse, and Quentin Lake, shut down the Ravens' offense, limiting them to just three points.

The Baltimore Ravens have extended their worst start to a season since 2015, falling to 1-5 after losing to the Los Angeles Rams. This latest setback casts doubt on their chances of turning things around and making a postseason push.

“We're the kind of team that can do it,” said Ravens coach John Harbaugh, expressing his confidence in the team's potential. Harbaugh believes the expected return of star quarterback Lamar Jackson after the team's bye week could be a significant boost. “The players we have, we're going to have healthy players back,” Harbaugh said. “I mean, our quarterback's going to be back. That's probably a big one. Our middle linebacker will be back.”

The Ravens will face a challenging road to the playoffs, but Harbaugh remains optimistic. With Jackson and middle linebacker Roquan Smith expected to return, the team will look to capitalize on their healthier lineup. The Ravens' next game is against the Chicago Bears in Week 8, after their Week 7 bye.

“We're going to have healthy players back,” he said. “Our quarterback's going to be back. That's a big one.”

The Baltimore Ravens' struggles without Lamar Jackson continued, with Cooper Rush being benched in favor of Tyler Huntley in the fourth quarter during their 17-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Rush had a tough outing, completing 11 of 19 passes for 72 yards and throwing an interception.

Colts Hold Off Cardinals

The Indianapolis Colts secured a 31-27 win over the Arizona Cardinals, improving their record to 5-1. The Cardinals' victory was marred by a frightening neck injury to tight end Travis Vokolek, who was stretchered off the field early in the game. The Colts, coming off a dominant win over the Raiders, had to rally to hold onto their undefeated home record.

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor scored a touchdown with 4:32 remaining, giving his team a 31-27 lead. The Colts' defense then stepped up to thwart a potential go-ahead drive by the Arizona Cardinals. Despite quarterback Jacoby Brissett's 78-yard march, the Cardinals came up short on a third-down play, with Brissett's pass attempt to Trey McBride in the end zone being incomplete.

The Carolina Panthers stunned the Dallas Cowboys 30-27 with a thrilling last-second field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald. Rico Dowdle had a standout game against his former team, rushing for 183 yards and hauling in 56 receiving yards, including a touchdown.

Fitzgerald's game-winning 33-yard kick capped off an impressive drive by the Panthers, who held the ball for 15 plays on their final possession. Dowdle's performance marked a franchise record for most scrimmage yards in consecutive games.

In another nail-biting finish, the Los Angeles Chargers edged the Miami Dolphins 29-27 with a 33-yard field goal by Cameron Dicker as time expired. Dicker's clutch kick helped the Chargers snap a two-game losing streak.

The Denver Broncos secured a 13-11 win over the New York Jets in London, with their defense dominating the game. They sacked Jets quarterback Justin Fields nine times, with Jonathon Cooper and Justin Strnad combining for the final sack to seal the victory.

The Broncos trailed 11-10 after Quinn Meinerz was flagged for holding in the end zone, resulting in a safety. However, Wil Lutz's 27-yard field goal with 5:06 remaining gave Denver the lead. Despite their strong performance, the Broncos' offense struggled, with Bo Nix completing 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown.
