’Neymar Remains in Brazil's Plans, But Fitness is Key’ — Carlo Ancelotti
Coach Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil faces Japan, with Neymar's fitness a key question mark. Brazil takes on Japan in a friendly match, looking to build on their recent 5-0 win over South Korea.
“Neymar can play at his highest level in this team without any problems...”
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti believes Neymar remains a vital part of the team's plans, but the forward's return to the squad hinges on regaining full fitness. Ancelotti emphasized that Neymar's talent is undeniable, but his physical condition will be the determining factor in his potential recall.
Neymar, 33, hasn't played for Brazil in two years due to persistent injuries that have disrupted his consistency since returning to Santos after a stint in Saudi Arabia. Despite this setback, Ancelotti highlighted Neymar's exceptional quality, stating that when he's fit, he can play for any top team in the world.
Ancelotti's comments came ahead of Brazil's friendly match against Japan in Tokyo, where the team will look to build on their impressive 5-0 win over South Korea. While Neymar's participation is uncertain, Ancelotti emphasized the importance of balance and teamwork in the team's approach.
“Neymar can play at his highest level in this team without any problems,” the Italian told reporters. “When he is in good physical condition, he has the quality to play not only in Brazil but in any team in the world because of his talent.”
Neymar, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward, hasn't played for Brazil since October 2023 due to a serious knee ligament injury. Despite his comeback attempts, the injury has continued to cause issues.
Brazil is riding high after a 5-0 thrashing of South Korea last Friday. The team's performance showcased their ability to play the beautiful game, giving them momentum heading into Tuesday's match.
However, Ancelotti stressed that balance and teamwork are crucial, emphasizing that individual brilliance alone isn't enough to guarantee success.
“The Brazilian national team wants to play beautiful football and can play it, yes, but it depends on what you mean by beautiful game,” he said.
“Of course, the players have individual quality and commitment. You have to play beautifully with the ball and also without the ball, which is an important aspect.”
Since taking over as Brazil's coach in May, Carlo Ancelotti has focused on instilling a strong attitude and adaptability in the team. This approach aims to prepare the squad for the challenges ahead.

Under Ancelotti's guidance, Brazil has shown significant improvement, particularly in defense. The team has conceded only one goal, a penalty against Bolivia in El Alto, while scoring nine goals in six matches, with a record of three wins, one draw, and one loss.
In their last match, Brazil's starting lineup featured four forwards: Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Matheus Cunha, and teenager Estevao. This attacking formation proved effective, as the team dominated South Korea 5-0 in Seoul.
The upcoming match against Japan gives coach Carlo Ancelotti a chance to fine-tune his team's tactics. Ancelotti emphasized the importance of commitment and teamwork, stating, “Commitment and teamwork are essential. Playing beautifully is important, but the most important thing is to win.”
