Denmark's national team coach, Brian Riemer, has called up Genoa's Morten Frendrup to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is serving a one-match suspension. Hojbjerg received a yellow card in the match against Belarus, which led to his suspension for the World Cup qualifier against Greece.

Denmark dominated Belarus, securing a 6-0 victory in their World Cup qualifying match on Thursday.

Morten Frendrup has been called up to join the Denmark national team for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Greece, scheduled to take place in Copenhagen on Sunday. Frendrup will replace the suspended Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the team's lineup.

The Denmark vs. Greece match is scheduled for October 12, 2025, at 19:45 WAT at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Denmark is set to face Greece in a crucial World Cup qualifying match, with Frendrup now part of the team.

“It is a great pity that we have to do without our captain, because he is very important to us. But we have found solutions before when he could not be with us,” said Brian Riemer after the game against Belarus. 

“We have a wide squad and have to go home and find solutions. Today we had a player from Marseille and Arsenal on the bench. They can both play in the role, just as Victor Froholdt can also play the position,” Brian Riemer pointed out.

Morten Frendrup's last appearance for the Denmark national team was in March, during the Nations League quarter-final against Portugal, where he was substituted.

Since joining Genoa in January 2022, Morten Frendrup has been a consistent performer in the midfield, featuring in almost every game for the Italian Serie A outfit. His impressive consistency earned him the captain's armband on several occasions last season.
