Dutch police arrested over 200 Napoli fans ahead of the Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven, citing “provocative behavior” by large groups of Italian fans in Eindhoven's city center.
The arrests were made to prevent confrontation with locals, and the detained fans were questioned overnight, fined, and subsequently banned from attending the match and entering the city center. PSV Eindhoven's stadium will still host the high-stakes match, with police maintaining a strong presence to ensure a smooth and safe experience for attendees.
“All arrested supporters with a ticket are not allowed to attend tonight's match,”said the police in a statement.
Authorities have designated the match as “high-risk,” prompting the implementation of special security measures, including preventative frisking. A substantial police presence is expected ahead of the 8 pm BST kick-off.
