Revolution sacks Caleb Porter as season nears end

MLS news: Caleb Porter out as New England Revolution coach after poor run. Read more about the team's struggles and future prospects.

“I'm very grateful to Caleb Porter for the energy, effort, and dedication he has brought to the Revolution...”

The New England Revolution has parted ways with head coach Caleb Porter, citing disappointing results in the 2025 MLS season. Porter, a two-time MLS Cup champion coach, managed the team for nearly two seasons, accumulating a record of 23-13-39 in all competitions since taking over from Bruce Arena.

Porter's Tenure and Statistics:

  • Overall Record: 23 wins, 13 losses, 39 draws in all competitions
  • MLS Record: 17 wins, 35 losses, 12 draws
  • Notable Achievements: Won MLS Cup with Portland Timbers in 2015 and Columbus Crew in 2020

Assistant coach Pablo Moreira will take over as interim head coach for the remaining four matches of the season. The Revolution currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference, 10 points behind the final playoff spot, making a postseason appearance increasingly unlikely.

“I'm very grateful to Caleb Porter for the energy, effort, and dedication he has brought to the Revolution over the last two years,” Revolution sporting director Curt Onalfo said.

“I have the utmost respect for Caleb and all the tireless work he has invested in the club, and we wish him the best moving forward.”

New England Revolution's coach, Bruce Porter, boasts an impressive MLS career record of 160 wins, 144 losses, and 11 draws. His achievements include leading the Portland Timbers to the 2015 MLS Cup championship and guiding the Columbus Crew to the 2020 league title. However, the Revolution have struggled to replicate this success, missing the playoffs last season.

Currently, the Revolution sit 23rd in the MLS total standings with 32 points from 30 games, comprising 8 wins, 14 losses, and 8 draws. Within the Eastern Conference, they rank 11th. Their home performance has been particularly challenging, ranking 28th overall with 12 points from 15 games, including 3 wins, 9 losses, and 3 draws.

Despite Bruce Porter's notable coaching experience, the Revolution's on-pace performance suggests another playoff miss might be looming unless they significantly improve their standings.

Upcoming Matches:

New England Revolution vs Philadelphia Union: September 20, 2025, at Subaru Park in Chester, PA
Current Standing: 11th in the Eastern Conference with 32 points (8 wins, 8 losses, 14 draws)
