The Cleveland Guardians made history by clinching a 2025 MLB postseason spot with a thrilling 3-2 walk-off win over the Texas Rangers. C.J. Kayfus was hit by a pitch from Robert Garcia in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded, scoring Petey Halpin and sending the Guardians to the playoffs.


This remarkable win marks a stunning turnaround for the Guardians, who overcame a 15 1/2-game deficit earlier in the season. The game remained tied until extra innings, when the Guardians ultimately scored 4 runs in the 10th inning to secure a 9-8 win. The Rangers added 3 runs in the 10th inning but came up short.


Relief pitcher Cade Smith secured his eighth win of the season by pitching 1.2 scoreless innings, showcasing his skill in closing out games. Smith's performance was crucial in helping his team secure a victory.
