FC Midtjylland Takes Top Spot with Derby Win Over Viborg

FC Midtjylland Vs Viborg
FC Midtjylland beat Viborg 2 - 0

FC Midtjylland secures a 2-0 win over Viborg in a heated derby match, thanks to Phillip Billing's goal and Cho Gue-sung's late strike.

“We had a miserable start to the second half, to say the least. I had some saves that kept us in the game...”

Former Bournemouth - and Napoli midfielder Phillip Billing scored his first goal for FC Midtjylland following his summer transfer when Mike Tullberg's team recorded three important points thanks to a late 2-0 win against bitter rivals Viborg on Saturday night.

FC Midtjylland's two goals came after long throw-ins, as Viborg-keeper Lucas Lund first produced a stunning save only to be beaten by Billing on the rebound with ten minutes to go. Then Cho Gue-sung, who recently came back from a long-term injury, made it 2-0 in added time.

Lund felt that the visitors gave too many free kicks away in promising positions allowing the home side to intensify the pressure on the Viborg goal.

“We had a miserable start to the second half, to say the least. I had some saves that kept us in the game, but obviously it wasn't enough of a wakeup call for us to tighten things up enough. We created far too little.”

“Before the match we talked about not giving away set pieces, but we gave them too many. That gave them momentum, and we were bound to be punished at some stage,” said Lucas Lund to TV 2 Sport.

FC Midtjylland took the top spot in the league with their win, while Viborg dropped to tenth place. However, both teams' positions are provisional, pending the outcome of the remaining matches in the Superliga on Sunday.
