Manchester United has agreed to sign Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £73.7 million (€85 million), with the player set to sign a five-year contract. The transfer includes a guaranteed fee of £66.3 million (€76.5 million) and £7.37 million (€8.5 million) in performance-related add-ons. Sesko's decision to join Manchester United over Newcastle United is seen as a significant coup for the Red Devils, with the player reportedly preferring the move to Old Trafford. Newcastle had made a second bid of £69.7 million plus add-ons, but Sesko's preference for Manchester United ultimately sealed the deal. The transfer is expected to bolster United's attacking lineup, with Sesko's physical presence and clinical finishing abilities making him a valuable addition.

Transfer Details:

Sesko's arrival at Manchester United is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attack, and he is likely to link up with other new signings, including Bryan Mbeumo. The transfer marks a major success for United's recruitment drive, with director of football Jason Wilcox and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell playing key roles in securing the deal.

“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.

“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.”

Benjamin Sesko's Journey

Benjamin Sesko's career path led him from a standout 20-goal season at 17 in Austria's second division to RB Salzburg and now to Manchester United, marking a remarkable journey for the young striker.

Sesko took two years to establish himself in RB Salzburg's first team, where he became a regular and scored his first Champions League goal as a teenager. He then joined Leipzig in a €24 million deal after the 2022-23 season.

Sesko's Next Chapter

Sesko continued to score prolifically at Leipzig, achieving double-digit league goals in both seasons while also contributing in cup competitions. Now 22, he's joined Manchester United in their pursuit of a dominant striker, and he'll likely compete with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee for starting spots, potentially making his debut against Arsenal.

Sesko's United Move

Benjamin Sesko was linked with several clubs, including Arsenal and Newcastle, with the latter's deal being accepted by Leipzig. However, Sesko chose Manchester United over Newcastle, with insiders believing he'll thrive at Old Trafford.

The director of football at Old Trafford, Jason Wilcox, said: “Benjamin possesses a rare combination of electrifying pace and the ability to physically dominate defenders, making him one of the most exceptional young talents in world football.

“We have followed Benjamin’s career closely; all of our data analysis and research concluded that he has the required qualities and personality to thrive at Manchester United.”
