World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will compete in the PGA Tour's BMW Championship without his regular caddie, Ted Scott, due to a family emergency. Scheffler's agent confirmed that Scott will remain at home to address personal matters. To fill the gap, Scheffler has brought in Michael Cromie, a seasoned caddie who typically works with Chris Kirk.

About Michael Cromie

  • Background: Cromie played college golf at the University of Georgia, earning All-American honors and winning the prestigious North & South Amateur in 2014.
  • Experience: He has been a key figure in Kirk's recent success, guiding him to two tournament victories since 2023.
  • Availability: Cromie became available after Kirk finished 51st in the FedEx Cup standings, missing out on the BMW Championship.

Scheffler's Previous Fill-in Caddie

In the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Scheffler used Brad Payne as his fill-in caddie after Scott returned home for a family issue. Payne, a PGA Tour chaplain and close friend of Scheffler, helped him finish T3, just one stroke shy of a playoff.

Cromie, who regularly caddies for Chris Kirk, will partner with Scheffler after Kirk finished 51st in the FedEx Cup standings, missing the BMW Championship cutoff. Scheffler's usual caddie, Ted Scott, is attending to a private family matter.

Scheffler's Current Standing and Upcoming Event

Scheffler currently tops the season points standings and has secured his spot at the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta next week. Despite already qualifying for the Tour Championship, Scheffler aims to become the first golfer to win back-to-back FedEx Cups. With Cromie by his side, Scheffler will face stiff competition at the BMW Championship, where the top 50 players vie for a spot in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup finals.

Scottie Scheffler's Caddie Change

Michael Cromie, Chris Kirk's seasoned caddie, will partner with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at the BMW Championship. Cromie has been working with Kirk since 2020, guiding him to two PGA Tour wins, including the 2023 Honda Classic and The Sentry in January 2024. With Kirk missing the top 50 cutoff, Cromie joined forces with Scheffler.

Scheffler's Previous Fill-in Caddie

Last week, Scheffler finished T3 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship with Brad Payne carrying his bags on the final day. Payne, a PGA Tour chaplain and close friend of Scheffler, stepped in after Ted Scott left for a family emergency. Scott has been Scheffler's trusted caddie since 2021, contributing to all 17 of his PGA Tour wins.

Scheffler's Pursuit of FedEx Cup Title

With Cromie by his side, Scheffler aims to become the first golfer to win back-to-back FedEx Cup titles. Scheffler has already secured his spot in next week's Tour Championship, where the top 30 players will compete for a $40 million purse.
