Paris Saint-Germain has officially confirmed the signing of Ukrainian center-back Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth on a five-year contract, making him the French club's first-ever Ukrainian player. The 22-year-old defender joins PSG from the Premier League club for a reported transfer fee of around €63 million, with potential bonuses adding up to €4.5 million.

Illia Zabarnyi, the Ukrainian international, played a crucial role in Bournemouth's defensive lineup last season. He made 36 appearances, helping the club achieve a positive goal difference in the Premier League for the first time and securing a ninth-place finish. Zabarnyi's impressive performances earned him recognition, and his departure marks a significant loss for Bournemouth's defense.

Transfer Details:

  1. Transfer Fee: The base fee is €63 million, with performance bonuses worth €3 million and an additional €1.5 million if PSG wins the Champions League or Ligue 1.
  2. Contract: Zabarnyi has signed a five-year contract with PSG, running until June 2030.
  3. Jersey Number: Zabarnyi will wear the number 6 shirt for PSG.
  4. Salary: He will earn a net salary of €4.5 million in his first season.

Impact on Bournemouth:

Defensive Rebuild: Zabarnyi's departure is the third major sale of a defender by Bournemouth this summer, following Dean Huijsen's move to Real Madrid for £50 million and Milos Kerkez's signing with Liverpool for £40 million.

Replacement: Bournemouth is set to sign Lille defender Bafode Diakite for £30.3 million, with £4.3 million in add-ons, to strengthen their defense.

“I'm very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain, the best club in the world, with the best project. I am here to give everything I have on the pitch and I'm looking forward to making my debut and meeting the fans,” Zabarnyi said in a statement.

Illia Zabarnyi began his professional football career at Dynamo Kyiv, his hometown club, where he made his senior debut. He progressed through the ranks, playing 84 matches and scoring one goal for Dynamo Kyiv before making a significant move.

Move to Bournemout

In January 2023, Zabarnyi joined Bournemouth on a five-and-a-half-year contract for a reported fee of around €22.7 million.

He quickly established himself as a key player, making 86 appearances and scoring one goal for the Cherries.

After an impressive 2023-24 campaign, Zabarnyi was awarded a contract extension until 2029, showcasing Bournemouth's faith in his abilities.
