PEC Zwolle secured a surprising 1-0 win over FC Twente, last season's European play-off finalists, in a thrilling Eredivisie match. The decisive goal was scored by Thijs Oosting, a talented FC Groningen loanee who netted a beautifully crafted shot from a distance just eight minutes into the game.




What's even more remarkable about Oosting's goal is that it's not the first time he's scored against his father, Joseph Oosting, who manages FC Twente. Back in February 2022, Thijs Oosting scored twice for Willem II in a match against RKC Waalwijk, showcasing his impressive skills on the field. This recent goal against his father's team adds another chapter to their notable football story.


AZ Storms to Victory

AZ kicked off their Eredivisie season with a 4-1 thrashing of FC Groningen in Alkmaar, amidst their UEFA Conference League qualifying campaign. Right-back Denzo Kasius opened the scoring in the fifth minute, capitalizing on a mistake by Groningen goalkeeper Hidde Jurjus, who inadvertently worked the ball into his own net while trying to save Kasius's low-driven cross.


Jeroen Zoet nearly gave Groningen a lifeline when his long ball found Thom van Bergen's head, but it sailed past the AZ goal. However, AZ quickly regained their advantage when Troy Parrott was fouled by Groningen captain Stije Resink, earning a penalty. Parrott confidently converted the spot kick in the 16th minute, doubling AZ's lead.




Stije Resink's afternoon took a turn for the worse in the 32nd minute when he deflected a corner into his own net, extending AZ's lead. Marco Rente pulled one back for Groningen before halftime, scoring from a corner after a goalkeeping error from Jeroen Zoet. Despite the momentum shift, Groningen's Thom van Bergen had a chance to make it 3-2, but Zoet made an unorthodox save to deny him.


The home crowd bid a emotional farewell to Ernest Poku, who is set to join Bayer Leverkusen, but their spirits were lifted by AZ's impressive performance. Instead of dwelling on goodbyes, they witnessed Troy Parrott seal the win with a stunning goal, beautifully curling the ball into the top corner and completing his third consecutive brace.


With this win, AZ secures a favorable position ahead of their UEFA Conference League qualifying match against FC Vaduz. The team will head into the second leg on Thursday, knowing they have a solid foundation to build upon. FC Utrecht Continues Winning Streak

Europa League hopefuls FC Utrecht kicked off their season with a bang, securing a convincing 4-0 win over Heracles Almelo. The home team dominated the first half, keeping Heracles at bay before scoring the opener in the 33rd minute. Feyenoord loanee Gjivai Zechiël headed home a precise cross from Yoann Cathline, giving FC Utrecht a crucial lead.


Struggling striker David Min finally broke his duck in the 62nd minute when Fabian de Keijzer failed to hold onto Souffian El Karouani's shot, and Min tapped the rebound into the goal. Viktor Jensen doubled the lead in the 70th minute, courtesy of Cathline's second assist of the match. Later, Dani de Wit sealed the win with a stunning header into the top left corner, opening his account for FC Utrecht and making it 4-0.
