Get the latest news on Vladimir Coufal's transfer from West Ham to Hoffenheim, including details on his contract and expected role at the Bundesliga club.

“Vladimir is an experienced international and has played in the English Premier League...”

Vladimir Coufal has joined Hoffenheim from West Ham, taking over the right-back position left by Pavel Kaderabek's departure. Coufal, a Czech national team regular, has signed a one-year contract with Hoffenheim, where he'll join compatriots Adam Hlozek and Robin Hranac. After 10 years, Kaderabek's exit had seemed like it would leave a void on Hoffenheim's right side, but Coufal's arrival ensures the club's Czech connection remains intact.

“After years in England at West Ham United, I am now looking forward to a new challenge in the Bundesliga,” Coufal told the club's website, before adding:

“The negotiations with TSG were excellent, and I didn't have to think long. I am convinced that the team has great potential, and I want to help us achieve our goals as a team in the coming season.”

Vladimir Coufal is set to replace Valentin Gendrey at Hoffenheim after the French defender suffered a serious ankle injury in training. Gendrey broke his ankle and tore ligaments, sidelining him for an extended period. “Vladimir is an experienced international and has played in the English Premier League,” Hoffenheim said. “Thanks to his experience, he will need almost no adaptation period.” Coufal's experience and Premier League background are expected to make his integration into the team smoother.

“We are convinced that with his excellent mentality and individual qualities, he will be an ideal addition to our team in the coming season,” said Andreas Schicker, TSG's sporting director.

Vladimir Coufal left West Ham after his contract expired last season, having played for the club since October 2020. Despite interest from several English clubs and his desire to stay in the Premier League, Coufal opted to join Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. He'll replace Pavel Kaderabek, who departed for Sparta Prague after a decade with the club. Coufal will join fellow Czech players Adam Hlozek and Robin Hranac at Hoffenheim.
