Chelsea has confirmed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United in a £40 million transfer deal. The 21-year-old Argentine winger has joined the Blues on a seven-year contract after undergoing a medical in London on Friday. This deal marks Chelsea's ninth arrival of the summer, with Garnacho becoming a key part of their long-term project.
Garnacho had been pushing for a move away from Manchester United all summer, and Chelsea's persistence paid off. The Blues initially offered £25 million, while United held out for £50 million, but a compromise was eventually reached. The deal also includes a 10% sell-on clause, ensuring Manchester United benefits from any future sale.
The young winger expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, stating, “It's an incredible moment for my family and me to join this great club. I'm very happy, and I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we're the best team in the world!” Garnacho's signing takes Chelsea's total summer spending to £296.8 million.
“It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy,” he added.
Alejandro Garnacho has been a key player for Manchester United over the past two seasons, making 93 Premier League appearances and scoring 16 goals. One of his most memorable moments came when he won the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award for his stunning bicycle kick against Everton.

The £40 million deal marks the fourth-largest sale in Manchester United's history, following those of Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, and Angel Di Maria. It is also the largest sale of an academy graduate player for the club, highlighting Garnacho's significant potential and value.
Interestingly, he was spotted at Stamford Bridge earlier on the same day, watching Chelsea's 2-0 win over Fulham, perhaps getting a feel for his new surroundings before finalizing his move.
