The Netherlands salvaged a point in their U21 Euros opener against Finland, thanks to a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser. Michael Reiziger's side made changes from their 3-0 win over Ivory Coast's U23s, with Ian Maatsen, Jorrel Hato, and Robin Roefs starting.

Finland's lineup featured seven new faces from their last friendly against Slovenia U21 in March, with Chelsea goalkeeper Lucas Bergstrom and striker Naatan Skytta starting.

Finland initially struggled but soon solidified their defense, making it tough for the Netherlands to break through. However, the Oranje maintained control, only to later face a fight for survival.

A defensive lapse by Ruben van Bommel and Ian Maatsen allowed Finland to launch a swift counterattack, which Casper Terho calmly finished, giving the Finns a surprise 1-0 lead.

A mistake by Youri Regeer allowed Finland to counter-attack, and Aberdeen's Topi Keskinen scored the 2-0 goal, beating Roefs at the near post.

Game-Changing Substitution

Michael Reiziger's halftime substitution of Youri Regeer with Luciano Valente paid off as Valente scored the Netherlands' first goal in the 59th minute, narrowing the deficit to 2-1. Despite dominating the second half and creating numerous chances, the Dutch struggled to find the equalizer.

Super-sub Luciano Valente played a key role again, setting up AZ's Ernest Poku to score with a low shot past Lucas Bergstrom in the far corner, leveling the game.

The Netherlands drew their U21 Euros opener but will need to improve to keep pace with group leaders Denmark. Meanwhile, Finland can take positives from their opening draw as they prepare to face Ukraine on Sunday.
