Tottenham Eye Thomas Frank as Postecoglou Replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to appoint Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their new boss, following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou. Find out more about the potential transfer and compensation deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly targeting Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their preferred candidate to replace Ange Postecoglou. Postecoglou was sacked after two seasons despite leading the team to their first trophy in 17 years by winning the Europa League just last month.

Thomas Frank has been at the helm of Brentford since 2018, successfully promoting the team to the Premier League in 2021 after a 74-year absence and stabilizing them in the top flight. To appoint Frank, Tottenham would need to pay around £10 million in compensation due to his contract running until 2027.

A formal approach from Tottenham to hire Thomas Frank is anticipated in the coming days. Meanwhile, Spurs will participate in the Champions League next season following their Europa League victory, where they defeated Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao.

Postecoglou's sacking stemmed from a disappointing Premier League season, where Tottenham finished 17th after losing 22 of 38 games. Despite this, the team managed to win the Europa League. Meanwhile, Thomas Frank's coaching journey began in Denmark's youth setup and later at Brondby. He joined Brentford as an assistant before taking over as manager after Dean Smith's departure to Aston Villa.

After a setback in the 2020 Championship play-off final, Brentford rebounded by winning promotion a year later. Under Thomas Frank, the team has become a solid Premier League outfit, achieving mid-table finishes, despite regularly selling top talents.

Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo is reportedly close to a big-money move to Manchester United, after scoring 20 Premier League goals last season. However, if Thomas Frank joins Tottenham, he's said to want to take Mbeumo with him, potentially complicating the transfer talks.
