Norris Edges Leclerc in Final Practice Session at Canadian GP

Canadian GP final practice results: Lando Norris fastest, Charles Leclerc close behind. Who'll secure pole position?

Lando Norris topped the final practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix, bouncing back from a tough Friday. He achieved a lap time of 1 minute and 11.799 seconds, edging out Charles Leclerc by 0.078 seconds. George Russell came in third, just a tenth behind Norris, while Lewis Hamilton impressed with a fourth-place finish, showing promising pace in his Ferrari. Norris's teammate, Oscar Piastri, had a rough session, hitting the Wall of Champions and finishing eighth.

The final practice session was intense and closely contested, indicating that the top four teams are in the running for pole position in qualifying.

The session saw Max Verstappen finish fifth for Red Bull, while Fernando Alonso impressed in sixth for Aston Martin. Kimi Antonelli showed promising pace in the second Mercedes, finishing seventh, and championship leader Oscar Piastri ended up eighth in the second McLaren.

Piastri trailed Norris by seven-tenths of a second, despite leading the drivers' championship by 10 points after nine races. Norris's strong performance came after a tough Friday, which he described as his “worst” of the season.

Carlos Sainz outpaced teammate Alex Albon in ninth, pushing RB's impressive rookie Isack Hadjar to 11th in front of a large crowd at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

The FIA's decision to suspend British steward Derek Warwick dominated paddock conversations ahead of the session. Additionally, the Las Vegas race secured a two-year contract extension. Practice started cautiously under mild and dry conditions.

The session was marked by drama when Oscar Piastri crashed into the “Wall of Champions” 22 minutes in, suffering a puncture. He returned to the pits, scattering debris that prompted a six-minute red flag.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen continued to struggle with brake issues, complaining about lack of grip. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda couldn't set a competitive lap. Lando Norris seized the opportunity, topping the timesheets with 12 minutes remaining.
