Jens Berthel Askou, the former assistant coach of FC Copenhagen, has been appointed as the new manager of Scottish club Motherwell. The 42-year-old will officially start his role next week, pending work permit approval.

“We are all ambitious people, and we’re all hungry for success. I can’t wait to arrive in Scotland and begin planning for the season ahead. There is a lot of work to be done, but it’s highly exciting.”

Jens Berthel Askou expressed pride and honor at becoming Motherwell's new manager. “This is a really proud moment for me,” he said. “It's a huge honour to be selected to become the manager of Motherwell Football Club.”

Askou added that after extensive discussions with the club's board, he found their ideas, ambitions, and morals align, which solidified his excitement about the role.

Jens Berthel Askou's managerial journey began in the Danish second tier with Vendsyssel, where he previously served as a player-assistant manager at Skive and Thisted. He led Vendsyssel to promotion to the Danish top-flight before moving to HB Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands in 2019.

Askou enjoyed a successful stint at HB Tórshavn before joining AC Horsens in 2021. Over two seasons, he guided the team back to Denmark's top division, securing his second promotion as a manager.

In 2023, Askou became the manager of IFK Göteborg in the Swedish Allsvenskan. During his short tenure, he earned two Manager of the Month awards, showcasing his impact on the team.

Askou later joined Czech club Sparta Praha as assistant manager, where he spent six months. He played a key role in helping the team reach the league phase of the Champions League before moving on to Motherwell.
