Tommy Paul Advances to Italian Open Semifinals

Tommy Paul advanced to the Italian Open semifinals, defeating Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(4), 6-3, and setting up a potential meeting with Jannik Sinner.

Paul awaits the winner of the Sinner-Ruud match, with a semifinal spot at the Foro Italico up for grabs, marking his second consecutive year reaching this stage in Rome.

Jannik Sinner faces a challenging test against sixth seed Casper Ruud, his quarterfinal opponent in Rome. Since returning from a three-month doping ban, Sinner's toughest match yet awaits him.

Despite being undefeated in sets on home clay, Sinner must overcome Ruud, who is on a hot streak and seeking a second consecutive 1000 Masters title after his Madrid win earlier this month.

Casper Ruud, the Norwegian sixth seed, boasts an impressive clay-court record, having won more matches on the surface than any other player in the last five years. Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, is still adjusting after his return from a suspension due to a doping violation.

If Sinner advances to the semifinals, it would mark a historic milestone: the first time two Italians would reach the last four of a Masters 1000 tournament in its 35-year history. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Musetti and Carlos Alcaraz will face off in the other semifinal.

Jasmine Paolini is on track to make history as the first Italian woman since Sara Errani in 2014 to reach the women's final in Rome. Paolini has already defeated Peyton Stearns 7-5, 6-1 in their semifinal match.

Stearns, however, has shown impressive form, knocking out notable players like Naomi Osaka and fifth seed Madison Keys. Despite being the underdog, Stearns pushed her opponents to three sets in several matches, showcasing her determination.

In the other semifinal, Coco Gauff will face China's Zheng Qinwen, who pulled off a stunning upset against world number one Aryna Sabalenka on Wednesday night. This match promises to be an exciting encounter between two talented players.
