Napoli Crowned Serie A Champions in Dramatic Fashion

Napoli secures the Serie A title after a 2-0 win over Cagliari, edging out Inter Milan by a single point. Antonio Conte's side dominated the season, losing only four times.

Napoli secured the title with a 2-0 win over Cagliari, thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay. Meanwhile, Inter Milan also won 2-0 against Como. Notably, if the two teams had finished with the same number of points, a playoff would have been required to determine the champion.

Napoli's title win was fueled by their solid defense, which conceded just 27 goals in 38 matches, with only four losses throughout the season. Despite not being the most prolific scorers, Antonio Conte's side managed to secure 24 victories, showcasing their resilience.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, had been closely competing with Napoli for the title until they suffered back-to-back losses to Bologna and Roma in late April. This setback gave Napoli the opportunity to pull ahead and ultimately secure the championship.

Under Antonio Conte, Napoli has been largely dominant in the league, with only one loss in 2024 - a defeat to Como in February. Despite a couple of draws against Bologna and Genoa, Conte's side has shown remarkable consistency.

The club's fourth Serie A title in history marks a triumphant return to the top, following previous wins driven by Diego Maradona in the 1980s and more recently under Luciano Spalletti two seasons ago.

Napoli's title win is a testament to the team's resilience despite losing key players Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. New stars emerged, notably Romelu Lukaku, who scored 14 goals, and Scott McTominay, who contributed 12 goals and won Serie A's Player of the Season award. Fittingly, both scored in the 2-0 win over Cagliari.

“Scott McTominay was later named Serie A's player of the season after his stellar campaign,” highlighting the impact he had on the team. The emergence of these players played a crucial role in Napoli's success this season.

”I'm lost for words. It's incredible you know, the sacrifice that every single player in the group has put forward to the cause,” said McTominay.

“And the people deserve it because they've been behind us from day one, and for me to come and experience this is a dream.”

Other key players for Napoli included Stanislav Lobotka, who controlled the midfield, and Italian players Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Matteo Politano, and Giacomo Raspadori, who provided consistency and experience. Their contributions were crucial to Napoli's title-winning season.
