The sanctions come after 19 high-profile “ultras” from the two clubs were arrested in September, with many suspected of having ties to the 'Ndrangheta mafia group, leading to an investigation into the clubs' relationships with these fan groups.
Inter's coach, Simone Inzaghi, and player Hakan Calhanoglu will face disciplinary action, with Inzaghi missing from the bench and Calhanoglu being unavailable for Inter's match against Verona on Saturday.
Inter, currently second in Serie A behind leaders Napoli by three points, along with AC Milan, faced sanctions from the FIGC due to their relations with unauthorized fan groups, including Inter's “Curva Nord” and Milan's “Curva Sud.” Inter was fined 70,000 euros, while Milan received a 30,000-euro fine.
The punishments resulted from plea-bargaining between the parties involved and the sporting authorities, according to Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport. Alongside his one-match ban, Hakan Calhanoglu will pay a 30,000-euro fine, while Simone Inzaghi faces a 15,000-euro fine.
Javier Zanetti, Inter's vice-president and a former longtime player, also received a fine of 14,500 euros as part of the sanctions.
