Iga Swiatek Cruises to Third Round at Italian Open
Iga Swiatek advances to the third round of the Italian Open after a convincing victory over Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Iga Swiatek began her Italian Open title defense with a dominant performance, thrashing Elisabetta Cocciaretto in straight sets, winning the match in just 52 minutes.
The world number two had come into the tournament following a tough loss to Coco Gauff in the Madrid Open semi-finals, but she showed no signs of struggle against Cocciaretto.

Iga Swiatek cruised past Italian opponent Elisabetta Cocciaretto, winning 6-1, 6-0. The 23-year-old Polish star dropped just one game in the match.
Swiatek attributed her success to feeling in control, saying, “I felt like the ball was kind of listening to me today and I had full control over the match, so it's always pretty comfortable to play a match like that. You just need to continue the work you've been doing and not expect that it's going to happen more often.” She'll now face American Danielle Collins in the third round.

Iga Swiatek, a three-time Italian Open winner, is using the tournament as a key step in preparing to defend her French Open title. However, she hasn't won a tournament this season.
Swiatek's progress contrasts with sixth seed Jasmine Paolini's win over Lulu Sun, 6-4, 6-3, setting up a third-round match against Ons Jabeur, who received a walkover against Petra Kvitova.
Meanwhile, world number one Jannik Sinner is set to return to competition after a three-month doping ban, facing Mariano Navone on Saturday. Navone secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Federico Cina earlier in the day.
