Eric Dier Set to Leave Bayern AS Monaco

Bayern Munich confirm Eric Dier's departure after two years, with the defender set to join AS Monaco.

Bayern Munich's sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that England defender Eric Dier will leave the club at the end of the season after two years. Freund stated that discussions about extending Dier's contract had taken place, but the player decided not to continue with Bayern.

According to reports, Dier is set to join Ligue 1 club AS Monaco after his departure from Bayern. Freund described Dier as a “super guy,” praising his contributions during his time at the club. “We have had good talks in recent weeks about a possible contract extension, but he has informed us that he will not be extending his contract and will be leaving us,” Freund added.

Sporting director Jan-Moritz Lichte's successor, Rouven Freund, discussed Eric Dier's contract situation, stating that a new two-year deal was an option but not the only one. “An option is a two-year contract, but he has another option where he can sign for longer. We have to accept that,” Freund said.

Freund praised Dier's time at the club, saying, “It was a great time with Eric, he did well and is a great guy. I hope he crowns his time here with the championship.” Dier has played 45 competitive games for the club, scoring two goals, and Freund added, “There are only positive things to say” about the player. A potential championship win on Saturday against RB Leipzig could cap off Dier's time at the club nicely.

Bayern's Defensive Confidence and Transfer Plans

Despite long-term absences, Bayern Munich's sporting director Christoph Freund believes the team's defense is “very well positioned in terms of quality and quantity.” While monitoring the injury situation, Freund emphasized that the club's priority is to secure the championship before considering any transfer plans.

Regarding potential interest in Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah, Freund stated, “That's not an issue at the moment. First of all, the record champions want to bag the trophy, then we will press ahead with the planning.” This suggests that Bayern will focus on their current squad and securing the title before exploring any potential signings.
