Djokovic Dominates McDonald to Cruise into French Open Second Round
Novak Djokovic dominates Mackenzie McDonald 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round of the French Open, extending his record to 21-0 in opening rounds at Roland-Garros.
Novak Djokovic kicked off his French Open campaign with a commanding performance, outplaying American Mackenzie McDonald in straight sets. Despite battling strong winds and light rain, the Serbian tennis star dominated the match, securing a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Fresh off his 100th career title win in Geneva, Djokovic showcased his exceptional skills on the same court where he won Olympic gold last year. His impressive form positions him as a strong contender for a record 25th Grand Slam crown. Djokovic's next challenge will be Roberto Carballes Baena in the second round, following his dominant display against McDonald.
“It is great to return here a year later. I don't know how many future Grand slams I have left in my hands but this is special,” Djokovic said in a post-match interview.
“I feel good and here even better because I can relive the Olympic Games here. Today it was a solid match throughout all three sets.

“I know I can play at a better level than today but I am satisfied. There is the chance to make further history and that is the biggest motivation to work, improve and be here.”
After splitting with coach Andy Murray, Djokovic seems to have found his rhythm, breaking McDonald at 2-2 and capitalizing on the momentum. A 10-minute delay due to wind and rain didn't disrupt his flow, as he quickly surged to a 5-2 lead in the first set. When play resumed, Djokovic remained composed, closing out the set on his serve.
Djokovic took control of the match early in the second set, securing another break and putting the 98th-ranked American in a tough position. The 38-year-old Serbian's dominant performance left McDonald facing an uphill battle to stay in the match.
Djokovic continued his dominant display into the third set, securing another early break and ultimately sealing the win on his first match point. The decisive moment came when McDonald's backhand return sailed into the net, handing Djokovic a straight-sets victory.
With this win, Djokovic extends his record to 21-0 in French Open opening rounds, showcasing his remarkable consistency in Paris. Notably, he hasn't dropped a set in the tournament's first round since 2010, solidifying his dominance on the clay courts of Roland-Garros.
