Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has emphasized the importance of winning the Europa League to salvage a disappointing season. He warned his players they have a “big responsibility” to deliver success in the competition.
United's Premier League woes continued with a defeat to Brentford on Sunday, adding pressure ahead of their Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao. A win in the Europa League could redeem their season.
Manchester United suffered a 4-3 loss to Brentford, extending their winless league run to six matches. The defeat left them 15th in the table, risking their worst finish since the 1973/74 season.
Ruben Amorim has faced significant challenges since taking over, with 12 defeats in 24 league games. However, United holds a 3-0 lead over Athletic Bilbao after the Europa League semi-final first leg, providing a lifeline to qualify for the Champions League with a win in the competition.
“I think it's stressful to lose games. When we're fighting for a title, it's not stressful,” Amorim said.
“I have no doubts that we are playing better and we are understanding the way we play, even in this context.”

“So we have to take all the hits in this moment. We are losing games in the Premier League, but we are fighting for the Europa League, so we need to accept that and to think about no,w Thursday which is the most important game for us.”
Ruben Amorim made eight changes to the starting lineup against Brentford, prioritizing the Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao. Key players like Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire were benched, highlighting Amorim's European focus.
“We, as a club, need to understand in this moment that we have a big responsibility (to win the Europa League),” Amorim said. “We have to prepare a squad for different competitions,” he added, emphasizing the importance of succeeding in Europe.
“Rotation is good for the players. Everybody is playing, we are preparing more than one game, but it's hard.
“Of course,e we want to be competitive, we struggled a lot during these 90 minutes. We have to think about the next game and then the Premier League.
“It's really hard, but we are doing the best we can to try to manage the situation and try to risk in some games.”
