Van Dijk: Liverpool Can Challenge for Titles in Upcoming Years

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk believes the team can challenge for titles in the upcoming years and expects significant activity in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk anticipates a “big summer” for the club in terms of transfers. This expectation comes as Van Dijk is reportedly nearing a new deal that will secure his future at Anfield.

The Reds are on the verge of clinching a record-equalling 20th English league title following their 2-1 win over West Ham, in which Van Dijk scored the decisive goal. With 13 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal and just six games remaining, Liverpool could seal the title as early as next weekend if results go their way.

Virgil van Dijk's future at Liverpool is expected to be secured with the announcement of a two-year contract, similar to Mohamed Salah's new deal. Meanwhile, Van Dijk believes the club will have a “big summer” in terms of transfers, with potential signings and departures.

Van Dijk expressed confidence in Liverpool's ability to challenge for titles in the upcoming years. “I think Liverpool should be able to challenge for titles in the upcoming years,” he said. “Whatever happens in terms of players going out, players coming in, I think it should be a big summer. I think they're planning to make it a big summer, so we all have to trust the board to do the right job.”

Van Dijk emphasized the team's potential for improvement and acknowledged the Premier League's competitive nature. “I think we 100% can improve,” he said. “I think we shouldn't forget the quality that the Premier League possesses, especially this season. It's incredible how everyone can beat everyone.” This mindset reflects the team's awareness of the challenges ahead.

Virgil van Dijk highlighted the benefits of a pre-season for Liverpool, noting that the absence of major international competitions this year provides an opportunity for the team to improve. “This year, there is a training camp and there is time for the team to work on what the manager wants and I think that will then improve the team,” he said.

Van Dijk believes a proper pre-season will help Liverpool be even more consistent. “I think a proper pre-season would definitely help the club in order to be even more consistent than we already have been,” he added, emphasizing the potential for further growth and improvement.

As Van Dijk is set to become the second Liverpool captain to lift the Premier League trophy, he expressed his deep connection to the club's culture and success. “Being successful with Liverpool, the culture of the club, everything that embodies Liverpool -- that is just part of me,” he said, reflecting his commitment to the team's goals.

“I love the club, that's pretty obvious. I think you can see that in the way I speak about the club, the way I work for the club in terms of what I do on the pitch on and off the pitch, and that will always be the same.”
