The victory has reignited Newcastle's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, and Tonali is eager to make a return to Europe's elite club competition.

He said, “Now we play only (to be among) the first five teams, for the Champions League. It is a little bit tough, but we are lucky because there are five teams in the Champions League this season.” Tonali also noted that the team's recent success has brought a sense of freedom, saying, “The team is a little bit free, so it is much better for me and for the fans.”


Tonali has overcome a challenging period, having returned from a 10-month ban for breaching betting regulations during his time at AC Milan. Since his return, he has established himself as a key player for Newcastle, which recently won the League Cup to end the club's 56-year wait for a major trophy.
