Stuttgart WTA Updates: Gauff and Pegula Cruise to Quarterfinals, Andreeva Out
Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula ease into the quarterfinals in Stuttgart, while Mirra Andreeva suffers an early exit.
Mirra Andreeva's impressive form took a hit as she lost to fellow Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova in the last 16 of the Stuttgart WTA event. Andreeva, ranked world number seven, went down in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, in just over an hour. Despite having two titles under her belt this season, including becoming the youngest winner of a WTA 1000 event in Dubai, Alexandrova's strong performance earned her the win, marking her fourth victory over a top-10 player this season.
World #3 Jess Pegula, who pretty much nothing to defend in the next 2/3 months, continues in great form, defeats Magdalena Frech 6-1, 6-1 to reach the QFs in Stuttgart.

Coco Gauff Advances to Quarterfinals
Meanwhile, American world number four Coco Gauff cruised into the quarterfinals with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over German lucky loser Ella Seidel in 57 minutes. Gauff's strong form will be put to the test as she faces Jasmine Paolini, a player she hasn't faced on tour since the 2023 Cincinnati tournament. This matchup comes after Gauff's earlier win over Seidel, showcasing her confidence and skill on the court.
Jessica Pegula's Quarterfinal Spot
World number three Jessica Pegula also secured her spot in the quarterfinals, defeating Magdalena Frech 6-1, 6-1 in just 59 minutes. Pegula will face Ekaterina Alexandrova, who upset Andreeva earlier in the day. Both Pegula and Gauff will need to maintain their strong form to progress further in the tournament.
Coco Gauff bounced back from her early exit in Miami with a dominant win, hitting two aces and breaking her opponent five times. She'll face Italian fifth seed Jasmine Paolini, who beat Jule Niemeier 6-1, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals for the second straight year. Paolini shared her approach to playing well, saying, “I'm doing what I love, I think just be happy about it, try your best and enjoy. That's the key for me to play better. When I'm sad and complaining, I'm not that good.”

Ekaterina Alexandrova will face third-ranked American Jessica Pegula, who beat Magdalena Frech 6-1, 6-1. Pegula dominated the match, converting five of five break points and fighting off one break point against her. Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka has already qualified for the quarterfinals after Anastasia Potapova pulled out of their last 16 match due to injury.
World number two Iga Swiatek, a two-time Stuttgart winner, has also reached the quarterfinals. With strong contenders like Gauff, Pegula, Sabalenka, and Swiatek in the mix, the competition is shaping up to be intense in the last eight.
