Ligue 1: Marseille Ends Losing Streak with Thrilling 3-2 Win over Toulouse

Marseille snapped a three-match losing streak in Ligue 1 with a thrilling 3-2 win over Toulouse, moving up to second place in the table after capitalizing on Monaco's defeat to Brest on Saturday. Toulouse had to be cautious defensively from the start, with Gabriel Suazo making a crucial tackle on Neal Maupay, who had been found by Adrien Rabiot's excellent pass.

Despite dominating possession, Toulouse struggled to create clear chances, with Shavy Babicka's cross sailing over the target after being set up by Aaron Donnum. However, Marseille's persistence paid off in the 21st minute when Rabiot played a one-two with Quentin Merlin, and his cross was inadvertently turned into his own net by Suazo, with Luis Henrique applying pressure.

Marseille thought they had won a penalty when Mason Greenwood went down, but the Englishman was instead booked for diving. Toulouse then equalized against the run of play, with Suazo making amends for his earlier mistake by delivering a cross that was headed in by Frank Magri, culminating a patient passing move.

The away team had a prime opportunity to complete their comeback just after the half-hour mark when Babicka created a two-on-one situation. However, he chose not to pass and instead overran the ball, squandering the chance. Marseille then had a chance to take the lead when Merlin's shot stung the palms of Guillaume Restes, but Maupay headed wide on the rebound.

The second half began at a slightly slower pace, but Toulouse continued to pose a threat. However, they were caught off guard by a moment of brilliance from Greenwood, who scored a stunning goal from the edge of the box. The goal came after Ismael Bennacer, playing with his usual metronomic consistency, received the ball following a foul by Magri on Valentin Rongier and promptly passed it to Greenwood, who unleashed a powerful shot past Restes.

Marseille quickly doubled their lead when Adrien Rabiot scored an exquisite volley from inside the penalty area. Although they conceded a free-kick that led to Toulouse reducing the deficit, courtesy of Vincent Sierro's finish, Marseille ultimately secured the three points. Luis Henrique had a chance to seal the win with a fourth goal late on but failed to capitalize.

The win marked a significant moment for Mason Greenwood, who has now scored his last five goals at the Stade Velodrome. Marseille's next match is against Monaco next Saturday, while Toulouse, currently 11th in Ligue 1, will face Lille later that day.
