LaLiga: Real Madrid Edges Getafe 1-0, Closes Gap on Barcelona

Real Madrid secured a crucial 1-0 win over Getafe, with Arda Guler's long-range strike keeping their title hopes alive and closing the gap on Barcelona.

Real Madrid secured a crucial 1-0 win over Getafe, keeping their title hopes alive and closing the gap on league leaders Barcelona to four points. Carlo Ancelotti made six changes to the lineup, with an eye on the upcoming Copa del Rey final against Barça.

Getafe started strongly, with Luis Milla testing Thibaut Courtois early on. Borja Mayoral and Fran Garcia also had promising chances, but Los Blancos ultimately broke the deadlock with Arda Guler's stunning long-range strike after Getafe failed to clear their defense.

Endrick had a chance to double Real's lead but was thwarted by Getafe captain Djené, who cleared the Brazilian's effort off the line after a neat one-two with Vinicius Junior.

Getafe pushed for an equalizer after the restart, with Álvaro Rodríguez heading over from Coba da Costa's cross. Real Madrid continued to press forward, and David Soria made a crucial save to deny Brahim Díaz's strike, keeping Getafe from getting back into the game.

Vinicius Junior was a constant threat down the left wing, almost scoring after a dazzling run, but his shot sailed over the bar. Despite his efforts, Real's win was workmanlike rather than spectacular. Getafe threatened on the counter, with Mauro Arambarri firing wide from Borja Mayoral's delivery.

The win keeps Real in the title hunt, but Carlo Ancelotti will be concerned about Eduardo Camavinga's groin injury, which forced him off late on. For Getafe, the loss extends their poor run, with only one win in their last eight home league games. They remain 12th in the table, and coach Jose Bordalas' struggles against Real continue, with 15 consecutive losses.
