Injury Forces Michael van Gerwen Out of Premier League Darts in Berlin

Michael van Gerwen's Premier League Darts campaign has been disrupted by a shoulder injury, forcing him to withdraw from the event in Berlin and allowing Gerwyn Price to advance to the semi-finals.

Michael van Gerwen, the three-time World Champion, has withdrawn from Night 9 of the Premier League Darts in Berlin due to a shoulder injury. The Dutch darts superstar was forced to cancel his participation at short notice, leaving his quarter-final opponent Gerwyn Price to receive a bye into the semi-finals.

As a result of Van Gerwen's withdrawal, Gerwyn Price is guaranteed two points in the battle for the play-offs, which will help him in his pursuit of a Premier League title. Meanwhile, Van Gerwen will remain on 13 points and is set to be overtaken by Price in the standings.

Van Gerwen, affectionately known as “Mighty Mike,” has an impressive record in the Premier League, having won the title seven times between 2013 and 2023. However, his injury setback will hinder his chances of adding another Premier League crown to his collection this season.

Michael van Gerwen has had a relatively slow start to the Premier League season, reaching the final only once, where he lost to Luke Humphries' compatriot Luke Littler in week 7. Meanwhile, Luke Humphries' fellow Englishman Luke Littler leads the table with an impressive four wins on the day and a total of 26 points.

The current standings show Luke Littler at the top with 26 points, followed by Luke Humphries with 18 points. Behind Michael van Gerwen, who has 13 points, are Gerwyn Price (12 points), Rob Cross (12 points), and Nathan Aspinall (10 points). Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting trail behind with 5 and 0 points, respectively.

The Premier League of Darts will continue its tour, traveling to Manchester next week before heading to Rotterdam in the Netherlands on April 17th. This will be a homecoming of sorts for Michael van Gerwen, who will look to bounce back from his injury setback and climb the rankings in front of his native crowd.
