Feyenoord Leapfrog FC Utrecht into Third Place with 4-1 Win

Feyenoord moved into third place in the Eredivisie standings with a 4-1 win over FC Groningen, thanks to goals from Anis Hadj Moussa, Igor Paixao, and Ibrahim Osman.

Feyenoord has solidified their grip on third place in the Eredivisie standings, thanks in large part to the outstanding performance of Paixao. The team's 4-1 victory over FC Groningen marked their third consecutive win in the league.

Under the guidance of Robin van Persie, Feyenoord has experienced a resurgence in form. After a slow start to his tenure, which included three winless games, Van Persie's side has bounced back with three consecutive victories. The turnaround began with a convincing 6-2 win over FC Twente before the international break, followed by a hard-fought 3-2 home win against Go Ahead Eagles last Sunday.

Igor Paixao, the Brazilian winger, has been instrumental in Feyenoord's recent success, contributing four goals and two assists in their winning streak. However, it was his counterpart, Algerian winger Anis Hadj Moussa, who opened the scoring against FC Groningen after just 10 minutes.

Hadj Moussa received a pass from midfielder Antoni Milambo, expertly cut inside, and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper at the near post. The match remained evenly contested, with both teams creating scoring opportunities in the opening 30 minutes. Nevertheless, Feyenoord maintained their advantage, and it was Paixao who doubled their lead with a stunning, curled effort into the top-right corner, marking his fifth goal in just three games.

Feyenoord's two-goal advantage was short-lived, as FC Groningen responded just four minutes later. Wouter Prins delivered a precise, low-driven pass across the goalmouth, finding Jorg Schreuders, who scored his first goal since October 2024.

The match continued to ebb and flow, with Feyenoord coming close to restoring their two-goal lead on the cusp of halftime. Jakob Moder, a former Brighton midfielder, struck the crossbar with a powerful effort, and moments later, Julian Carraza appeared to have scored, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. The second half was marked by a lack of clear-cut opportunities, as both teams struggled to create space in the opposing half. The match remained tightly contested, with little separating the two sides.

It wasn't until the 82nd minute that Feyenoord finally managed to reestablish their two-goal cushion. Igor Paixao scored his 12th goal of the season, courtesy of a well-crafted move involving Givairo Read and Ramiz Zerrouki, who set up the Brazilian winger for the decisive strike.

Ibrahim Osman, a Brighton loanee, sealed the win for Feyenoord in the 90th minute, crushing FC Groningen's slim hopes of a miraculous comeback. The Ghanaian speedster showcased his clinical finishing skills, beating Etienne Vaessen with a precise, placed effort into the bottom-right corner.

Feyenoord's third consecutive victory propelled them into third place in the Eredivisie standings, leapfrogging FC Utrecht in the process. This position secures them a spot in the Champions League qualifying rounds, a significant achievement for the Rotterdam-based club. Conversely, FC Groningen remains in eighth place following their defeat.
