The mistrial was declared just two days after the trial had begun, and the jurors were subsequently discharged.
The five former Canadian junior ice hockey team members - Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Carter Hart, and Alex Formenton - face charges of sexual assault stemming from a 2018 hotel incident. McLeod also faces an additional count of being a party to an offence. All players have pleaded not guilty.
The incident allegedly occurred in June 2018 at a hotel in London, Canada, following a Hockey Canada gala celebrating the team's world junior championship win earlier that year. Due to the mistrial, a new trial will be held, with jury selection set to begin on Friday.
