Newcastle United celebrated the end of their 54-year trophy drought with an epic parade through the city's streets on Saturday. A staggering 150,000 fans, clad in black and white, gathered to cheer on their heroes as they rode on an open-top bus, basking in the glory of their League Cup triumph.

The Magpies' 2-1 victory over Liverpool on March 16th marked a historic moment for the club, securing their first major trophy since 1969 and their first domestic cup in 70 years. Despite the lack of silverware over the decades, Newcastle has maintained a devoted and passionate fanbase, one of the largest in English football.

Manager Eddie Howe was visibly moved by the outpouring of support from the fans, who had created a massive banner with his face emblazoned on it opposite the club's St. James' Park stadium. “This is really incredible, absolutely mind-blowing,” Howe exclaimed. “You've got people hanging from lampposts, out of buildings, I hope everyone's all right.” He also expressed his gratitude to the fans, saying, “The people have been absolutely brilliant. I can't thank everyone enough the way they've embraced me and my family and I'm glad to have given them some joy.”

The celebratory parade for Newcastle United's Carabao Cup victory began at St. James' Park and made its way through the city centre before culminating at Town Moor. At Town Moor, the players and notable figures from Newcastle's past were welcomed on stage, basking in the adoration of the fans.

Newcastle United's record goalscorer and former England captain Alan Shearer was overwhelmed with emotion as he reflected on the celebrations. “I said I was going to party heavier than anyone and I think I did,” Shearer said. “I don't know where I am, what time it is, what day it is! The last two weeks have just been probably the best of my life.” Shearer's sentiments encapsulated the euphoria that had engulfed the city.

The heroes of Newcastle's Carabao Cup triumph, including local hero Dan Burn and star striker Alexander Isak, were hailed as legends. Burn, who scored a crucial goal at Wembley, made his England debut less than a week later, aged 32. As he took in the celebratory scenes, Burn was struck by the profound impact of ending the long wait for silverware on Tyneside. “Something I'll never forget,” Burn told the BBC. “The sheer number of people was amazing. It's really hit home what it means to the city. Just being able to take in that moment. It's only an hour, but it's an hour I'll never, ever forget.”

The celebratory festivities for Newcastle United's Carabao Cup victory were capped off with a dazzling drone show, courtesy of the club's sponsors Sela, a Saudi entertainment and hospitality company. This spectacular display added a magical touch to the evening's festivities.

Newcastle United's resurgence on the field can be attributed, in part, to the takeover by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund in 2021. Since then, the Magpies have experienced a significant transformation, culminating in their recent Carabao Cup triumph. The team also made a notable return to the Champions League last season, marking their first appearance in the competition in 20 years.

With their current form and momentum, Newcastle United are well-positioned to secure another top-four finish in the Premier League. Eddie Howe's team currently sits sixth in the table but would leapfrog to fourth place if they win their game in hand against Crystal Palace. This would potentially set the stage for another Champions League campaign next season.
