Flick Delighted with Barcelona's Dominant Display Against Real Sociedad

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick hailed his team's dominant display as they thrashed Real Sociedad 4-0 to reclaim top spot in LaLiga.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed his delight with the team's mentality and hunger after they thrashed 10-man Real Sociedad 4-0 on Sunday to reclaim top spot in the LaLiga standings. The convincing victory was fueled by goals from Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, Ronald Araujo, and Robert Lewandowski, showcasing the team's dominant display.

The win propelled Barcelona to first place with 57 points from 26 games, one point ahead of Atletico Madrid and three points clear of rivals Real Madrid. Flick praised his team's attacking style, saying, “It's the style we want to play. Our first thought is always about the offence. We want to pass always. We are attacking well, everyone is hungry to score goals.” He also emphasized the importance of being in the right positions, stating, “Today we were in the right positions, it helps us a lot because we have a lot of chances to pass through the last line.”

Flick acknowledged the team's happiness with the three points, but downplayed the significance of scoring many goals. “We are happy, but more happy about three points than scoring many goals,” he said. The manager also addressed concerns about midfielder Gavi's fitness, revealing that Gavi had been feeling unwell the previous day. “We thought about starting with Gavi today, but yesterday he felt a little bit ill,” Flick explained. “He said yesterday he had a fever and we had to take care of that. It was not necessary to bring him in, so we started another player.”

As the second half reached its midpoint, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick made a strategic triple substitution, aiming to conserve his players' energy for their upcoming Champions League last-16 first-leg clash with Benfica on Wednesday. This tactical move came minutes after Ronald Araujo had scored Barcelona's third goal, extending their lead to 3-0.

Flick acknowledged that the substitutions played a crucial role in preparing his team for the Benfica match, particularly given the Portuguese side's longer preparation time. “There are a lot of things that helped us a lot today. The red card was one of those, but also how we played. We were very dominant after this red card and this is how we want to play,” Flick said. He emphasized the importance of the substitutions, stating, “Of course, the substitution was very important for us because they can rest a little bit more. This helps us a lot, but at the end, we will see.” Flick also expressed caution regarding the upcoming match against Benfica, noting, “Benfica, they had one week to prepare for our match, so we have to be careful.”
