Serie A: Lazio Snatch Late Equalizer to Deny Napoli Victory

SS Lazio scored a late equalizer through Boulaye Dia to hold SSC Napoli to a 2-2 draw, denting the visitors' title hopes in the process.

SSC Napoli's title ambitions suffered a setback as they were held to a 2-2 draw by SS Lazio, having failed to secure a win in their three meetings this season. Lazio made a strong start and took the lead within six minutes. Mattia Zaccagni's free-kick was saved by Alex Meret, but the resulting corner led to Gustav Isaksen scoring a stunning goal, firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Napoli equalized shortly after, despite having limited opportunities in the first half. Giacomo Raspadori received a pass from Romelu Lukaku, cleverly cut inside, and struck the ball into the back of the net, leveling the score.

Lazio's goal sparked a dominant display for the remainder of the half, with Taty Castellanos narrowly missing the target from midfield before being forced off due to injury. Nicolo Rovella also tested Alex Meret's reflexes with a shot from the edge of the box, but the score remained tied at halftime.

Napoli emerged revitalized in the second half, thanks in part to Antonio Conte's halftime team talk. Romelu Lukaku attempted a shot from the edge of the area, prompting an early save from Ivan Provedel. Napoli's pressure eventually paid off when Adam Marusic inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net while attempting to intercept a pass.

Lazio thought they had equalized just three minutes later, courtesy of Mattia Zaccagni, but the goal was disallowed due to offside. Undeterred, Marco Baroni's side pushed for a late equalizer, and their persistence paid off in the 87th minute when Boulaye Dia's strike from the edge of the box ricocheted off the post and into the net, sending the home crowd into raptures.

The late equalizer dealt a significant blow to Napoli's title aspirations, allowing Inter Milan to potentially overtake them at the top of the table. Despite extending their unbeaten away league record to 12 games, Napoli's dropped points have opened the door for their rivals. Meanwhile, Lazio's hard-fought point may not be enough to secure their top-four spot, as a Juventus win this weekend could push them down the table.
