Ligue 1: PSG Grind Out 1-0 Victory Over Toulouse to Stay Top of Ligue 1

PSG edged Toulouse 1-0 in Ligue 1, with Fabian Ruiz scoring the winner to keep the Parisians top of the table

Paris Saint-Germain maintained their commanding 10-point lead in Ligue 1 with a narrow 1-0 victory over Toulouse in southern France. The win extended PSG's impressive unbeaten away run in Ligue 1 to 35 matches, comprising 27 wins and 8 draws.

PSG manager Luis Enrique made six changes to his starting lineup from their midweek UEFA Champions League win, including dropping key player Ousmane Dembele to the bench. The numerous alterations may have contributed to PSG's slow start, as they struggled to create scoring opportunities despite dominating possession in the early stages. Meanwhile, Toulouse's Charlie Cresswell squandered a promising chance in the 14th minute, heading Aron Donnum's corner straight into the hands of PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

Toulouse's Donnum was instrumental in breaking up PSG's attacks, effectively nullifying the threat posed by Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue. Donnum also showcased his vision with a quick free-kick that released Zakaria Aboukhlal midway through the first half. However, Aboukhlal failed to capitalize on the opportunity, firing his shot wastefully over the crossbar. At the other end, Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes was largely untested until the 29th minute, when he made his first save from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's deflected shot.

Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes faced a stern test as PSG intensified their pressure. He impressively tipped Lucas Beraldo's 20-yard strike onto the left-hand post, and moments later, he rushed out to deny Bradley Barcola, who smashed his follow-up shot over from an angle. However, Restes' impressive display was cut short as he was forced off with an apparent leg injury shortly before halftime, replaced by Kjetil Haug.

At halftime, Luis Enrique would have urged his team to increase their attacking potency. Although Toulouse began the second half brightly, PSG secured the decisive goal in the 52nd minute. Lee Kang-In's inswinging corner was pawed onto the crossbar by Haug, and Fabian Ruiz capitalized on the rebound to score the winner. Desire Doue soon squandered a close-range opportunity, and despite Enrique introducing Ousmane Dembele as part of a triple substitution after the hour mark, PSG ultimately ground out a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

The win maintains PSG's commanding lead in Ligue 1. Their focus now shifts to their Champions League quest, with a second leg against Brest on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Toulouse's winless streak in Ligue 1 has extended to six games. They will seek to end this drought next Sunday when they visit relegation-threatened Le Havre.
