The match at the Metropolitano began slowly, with both teams struggling to create scoring opportunities in the opening 15 minutes. As the match drew to a close, Rodrigo Riquelme struck the crossbar, but Atletico Madrid's misses ultimately proved inconsequential. In stoppage time, Antoine Griezmann sealed the win with a sensational chip, racing through the Mallorca defense to put the contest to bed. The victory applies pressure on LaLiga leaders and city rivals Real Madrid, reducing the gap to just one point ahead of Los Blancos' match against Espanyol.
