Barcelona manager Hansi Flick provides an update on the injuries of Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo ahead of their Copa del Rey semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid.



Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has emphasized the need for his team to learn from their LaLiga defeat to Atletico Madrid earlier this season and be more clinical in front of goal when they meet again in their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg. Atletico Madrid secured a 2-1 victory at the Camp Nou in December, despite Barcelona dominating the opening exchanges and scoring the first goal. Flick acknowledged that his team must prove themselves in the upcoming match. “This is a new game. We have to prove it,” Flick told reporters ahead of Tuesday's home clash.



Flick expressed his admiration for Atletico Madrid, describing them as a “great team” with significant investment in top players. He anticipates a challenging match, but remains focused on the opportunities for his team to succeed. “Atleti are a great team, they have invested a lot of money. They have the best defenders and the best attackers. It's going to be a tough game...” Flick reflected on the lessons learned from the previous defeat, highlighting the team's ability to play good football, but also their failure to capitalize on scoring opportunities. “The positive thing we learned (from the defeat) is that we can play good football. What we showed there was on the highest level. We had the possibility to score one or two more goals before they scored.”


Flick stressed the importance of taking advantage of scoring opportunities and remaining mindful that the Copa del Rey semi-final is a two-legged tie. “We have to take advantage of the opportunity to score, the important thing is to score goals. And we have to keep in mind that it's two games and not just one,” Flick said.



Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is hopeful that 17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal will be available for selection against Atletico Madrid despite missing training on Monday due to a knock he picked up in the 2-0 win at Las Palmas on Saturday. Yamal, who provided an assist in the match, posted a picture of his injured left foot on Instagram after the game. Flick expressed cautious optimism about Yamal's availability, saying, “We will have to wait to see if he can play, I see the situation as positive from what the doctor has told us. And we want him to be with us.”




Flick also provided an update on midfielder Dani Olmo, who has recovered from a calf injury suffered in January. Olmo, who has been in impressive form since joining Barcelona from RB Leipzig in the off-season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 22 appearances, came off the bench to score in the win over Las Palmas. Flick expressed his satisfaction with Olmo's progress, saying, “For me, the most important thing is that he can start from the beginning, we have to look after him and that's what we've been doing.” Flick also highlighted the significance of Olmo's goal against Las Palmas, saying, “The goal he scored against Las Palmas was very important.”
